Philodendron Caramel Marble Variegated
Philodendron erubescens 'Caramel Marble'
A variegated cultivar of Philodendron erubescens native to the rainforests of South America, grown for its warm, multi-toned variegation in which new leaves emerge in rich caramel, copper, and golden-yellow tones before maturing through complex blends of green, cream, and amber — a color sequence that shifts across every leaf and makes each new unfurling a distinct event. A climbing philodendron whose variegation is inherently unpredictable and slow to produce, making larger specimens proportionally more valuable. Self-heading in juvenile growth but develops a climbing habit with maturity.
-
Light: Bright indirect light is essential for maintaining strong caramel and golden variegation; insufficient light causes progressive fading toward green. Avoid direct sun which scorches the lighter sectors.
-
Soil: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir; excellent drainage essential. Never waterlogged.
-
Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-80°F; humidity of 60-80% supports the cleanest leaf emergence and most vivid variegation expression. Avoid cold drafts below 60°F.
-
Watering: Allow the top inch of medium to dry between waterings; water thoroughly and drain completely. More sensitive to overwatering than most philodendrons — err on the dry side.
-
Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during active growth; dilute to half strength — variegated forms are more sensitive to fertilizer salt buildup than standard plants. Reduce in winter.
