  • Ficus repens 'Variegata', commonly known as Variegated Creeping Fig, is a fast-growing vining plant with beautifully patterned leaves. Originating from East Asia, including China, Japan, and Vietnam, this member of the Moraceae family clings naturally to tree trunks, rocks, and walls using fine aerial rootlets. Its delicate leaves, splashed with creamy white and soft green, form dense, trailing or climbing mats that bring a light, textured appearance to indoor spaces. This variegated form offers a brighter, more decorative option compared to the solid green type, often adding a soft, living texture to vertical surfaces and hanging displays.

The juvenile foliage, typically seen in houseplants, is small, heart-shaped, and about 1 inch wide, with irregular patterns of white or pale cream edging the green centers. As the plant matures, particularly in outdoor or high-light settings, the leaves may thicken and lose some variegation, but indoors they usually retain their fine, colorful detailing. Ficus repens 'Variegata' can trail gracefully from pots, spill from hanging baskets, or climb supports like moss poles, frames, or trellises. Its versatile growth habit makes it adaptable for many creative uses, from indoor topiary frames to lush green walls.

Compared to the standard green Ficus repens, the variegated form grows slightly slower due to reduced chlorophyll in the leaves. It also tends to be a bit more sensitive to very low light, as variegated plants generally require a little more brightness to maintain clear coloring. With proper light and humidity, the plant forms dense, cascading mats of foliage that soften architectural edges and add movement to indoor designs. Regular trimming helps maintain a neat shape and encourages fuller, bushier growth.
  • Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain strong variegation and healthy growth. It can tolerate moderate light, but colors may fade in very low-light conditions.

Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, keeping the soil lightly moist but not soggy. Allow excess water to drain to avoid root rot.

Prefers a well-draining, rich potting mix, containing peat moss and perlite. Good drainage supports healthy root development and prevents waterlogging.

Thrives in moderate to high humidity, ideally around 50–70%. Additional humidity through misting or a humidifier can prevent browning of the delicate leaves.

Versatile and decent size
Color: Black, Color: Black
I love little trays for random things. I saw this and had to get it. I ordered the black one. It came nicely packaged in a box that protected it from any damage during transport. It is approximately 8” x 8” x 1.6.” It is made of faux leather and MDF. It is supposedly water-resistant, but I have tested that. The interest in smooth, while the exterior walls have vertical ridges. The bottom is smooth. It’s heavy enough so it doesn’t side around. I have used it for numerous things: jewelry, pens and notepads, keys and sunglasses, perfume, medications, change, remotes, and change. It’s a handy and modern piece that could suit most people.
