Monstera deliciosa ‘Mint’ — Description
Monstera deliciosa ‘Mint’ is a rare, variegated form of the classic Monstera deliciosa. Its leaves feature soft mint-green to pale green marbling mixed with deeper green, creating a cool, frosted look rather than bright white variegation. Each leaf is unique, and mature plants develop the iconic split and fenestrated leaves Monstera is known for.
Because the mint coloration contains less chlorophyll, this plant grows more slowly and needs a bit more care than a regular Monstera.
Care Guide
🌞 Light
-
Bright, indirect light is essential
-
Too little light → loss of mint variegation
-
Direct sun → leaf burn
-
Best near an east or bright north-facing window, or a few feet back from a sunny window
💧 Water
-
Water when the top 2–3 inches of soil are dry
-
Use well-draining soil and a pot with drainage holes
-
Avoid overwatering — variegated Monsteras are prone to root rot
🌱 Soil
-
Use a chunky, well-aerated mix, such as:
-
Potting soil
-
Orchid bark
-
Perlite or pumice
-
-
This keeps roots oxygenated and healthy
🌡 Temperature & Humidity
-
Temperature: 65–85°F (18–29°C)
-
Humidity: 50–70%+ preferred
-
Higher humidity encourages larger leaves and better fenestration
🌿 Fertilizer
-
Feed lightly during spring and summer
-
Use a balanced liquid fertilizer at ¼–½ strength every 4–6 weeks
-
Do not over-fertilize — it can stress variegated leaves
🪴 Support
-
Provide a moss pole or trellis
-
Climbing encourages larger, more mature leaves
✂️ Pruning & Maintenance
-
Remove damaged or fully green leaves if variegation is declining
-
Wipe leaves occasionally to remove dust and help photosynthesis
Extra Tips for Mint Variegation
-
More light = better mint coloring (but never harsh sun)
-
Growth is naturally slow, so patience is key
-
Variegation is genetic, but can fade if conditions aren’t right
