Common Name: Monte Carlo
Low-growing aquatic plant known as Micranthemum "Monte Carlo" is native to Argentina. It makes for the ideal foreground plant and, with the right lighting and nutrients, has the potential to develop into a dense carpet of emerald green foliage. Small and rounded, the leaves have a lovely brilliant green hue that may complement any neutral-toned substrate. The leaves of this plant are larger and, in our experience, simpler to grow than those of Hemianthus Callitrichoides (HC/Dwarf Baby Tears), which it is extremely similar to. We advise trying Monte Carlo if a hobbyist is having problems growing HC.
To prevent this plant from growing too tall, it needs strong illumination and CO2 injection. Lack of lighting is indicated by vertically developing thin stalks, and nutritional malnutrition may be shown by fading leaves. Thin leaves may also indicate a deficiency in CO2. When grown properly, this plant can expand swiftly and need regular trimming.
In dry start aquariums and Wabi Kusa, this plant can grow emersed or immersed. This plant can be challenging to maintain planted into the substrate due to its small size and tiny roots. By giving the roots enough time to set down in the substrate before flooding the tank, dry start can be helpful in this situation.
