Micranthemum tweediei 'Monte Carlo' is a classic carpeting plant native to Argentina. It has similar growth needs and behaviors to Pearlweed and Glossostigma.

Perfect for a higher-tech setup, Monte Carlo grows quickly and densely with appropriate high lighting, CO2 and fertilizers. You'll love the dense carpet of these tiny leaves.

This plant comes rooted in a 2" net pot, and ready to go!

EMERGENT-GROWN

Growing Suggestions:

  • High light needs, CO2 Recommended!
  • 60-80F
  • Fast, low/ creeping growth rate, 1-2" high
  • Root tabs recommended: Yes
  • Excellent forage and shelter!

Cassandra's Notes:

Similarly to Glosso, Monte Carlo will start to yellow and become leggy without enough light and fertilizer. You'll definitely need to keep trimming for this plant to look it's best!

As the roots can be very weak and delicate, I'd suggest setting aside quite some time to get this planted. Expect that you'll need to re-plant runaway segments! Long, delicate tweezers help. I've had some minor success sprinkling a very thin layer of sand over a carpet I'm trying to establish. Not enough to smother, or block any light, but just enough to weigh the plant down until it gets established into the substrate. Very delicate roots!

We get a lot of questions about separating these sort of plants from the potted rockwool it's in.

Yes, you can absolutely leave the rockwool in your tank!

It's pretty inert, and will not harm your tank nor its inhabitants. If you want to keep it potted, you totally can!

That said, if the rockwool is really not doing it for you, but you're worried about disturbing too much of the delicate root system these creepers have built, try this:

Use some scissors to snip apart the top of the rockwool where the plant has rooted from the bottom. Snip into a flat circle, resembling a 'mat' of sorts. Now you can place that little mat in the gravel or other substrate, without having torn up too much of the root system!

As I like to keep real ecosystems in my aquariums, there’s always a chance of harmless hitchhikers like snails or dwarf shrimp tagging along with your plants!

I personally keep several beneficial snail species in my tanks, including Colorful Ramshorns, Bronze Bladder and Pond Snails, Mini Rams, and Malaysian Trumpet Snails. These snails stay relatively small, help clean the aquarium, and do not eat healthy plants or cause harm. However, if you’d rather avoid any hitchhikers, I highly recommend checking out our blog on how to safely disinfect aquarium plants before adding them to your tank:
How to Bleach Dip Aquarium Plants Safely

All plants are freshly snipped or harvested and packed right before shipment. I take great care in preparing every order and use methods that have consistently produced the best results over many years in the hobby. A lot of love goes into every package, so please don’t leave your plants sitting in a hot mailbox for too long 🙏

Thank you for looking, aqua friends! 💚

    Short book, big recommendation!
    Format: Hardcover
Great book, smooth read that is not overly technical for those who aren't therapists themselves. Examines large existential questions in a digestible format with each chapter being a different real world story. Highly recommend.

Yalom as always, but fizzing out.
    Format: Hardcover
When entering the field of psychology, I was first introduced to Yalom. As I look back on my early career, I realize that he has influenced my thinking more than I'd like to admit. His focus on relationships and death anxiety are central in this work, as they were in the past. You get a real sense of how he works and we are invited into the intimate and sacred corners of his office and his mind. However, his depth - his use of metaphors and his robust explanations are declining. He is still a profound and articulate writer but I have noticed a drop off in his writing that began with the Spinoza Problem and continues here. Ironically, Yalom is fading, his writing abilities are dying - which makes his own wrestling with his mortality even more visceral to me as a reader. I continue to be thankful for his insight and work.

Another great book by an exceptional writer and story teller.
    Format: Hardcover
One day I was strolling through a bookstore and saw a novel by Irvin Yalom titled "Lying on the Couch". The fact that it was written by a psychiatrist with a private practice who was also a professor at Stanford University intrigued me. I wasn't expecting much from the book other than a light read but to my (delightful) surprise, the story had great depth and Dr. Yalom proved to be an excellent writer and story teller. So much so, that I have since read every book he's written. You don't have to be a student of therapy or a therapist to appreciate this book or any other by Dr. Yalom. His writing speaks to everyone and leaves everyone with a gift of personal insight. There are many good writers but only a few great ones. Dr. Yalom is among the greats. He is wise, humble, and deeply honest about his own struggles with the big questions in life. If you haven't met Dr. Yalom, I urge you to read any one of his books. You won't be disappointed!

    Don't miss out!
    Format: Kindle
Though I knew of Irvin Yalom's books, I somehow missed reading any of them before, during or after my licensure as a mental health professional. "Creatures of a Day" is my first Yalom book, but with certainty, I can say that it won't be my last. For if his previous books are half as good as this one... they'll all be worth reading. Creatures of a Day contains ten "portraits" of clients and Yalom's work with them. Portraits is the right word since the descriptions are so vivid and compelling that one might actually feel they're in the room watching Yalom and the clients do the dance of therapy. The topics of death and meaning in life connect the stories as one might expect from a humanist/existentialist therapist. More than one of the stories were sadly sweet and brought tears to my eyes as I read... yet I could not put down the book and read it within just a few sessions. As a therapist, who also eschews diagnosis and manualized treatments, seeing a master therapist at work was invaluable. And surprisingly, Yalom doesn't gloss over the "mistakes" he makes or focus only on his expertise. This book more than anything shows the power of moments that matter, the healing connection that can happen when one person fully meets another where they're at. All therapists should read this book, but it shouldn't be limited to professionals. Everyone will relate to these stories and the people they depict so humanly well... Don't miss out on Yalom's work, especially "Creatures of a Day."

Champion teacher/author in the field of psychotherapy does not disappoint in this beautifully written collection of stories.
    Format: Kindle
Absolutely enjoyed every minute reading these stories by this world respected author, clinician and psychiatrist. As clinical psychologist I have read all his books and have always come away with having learned so much about the therapeutic process in relationships. This last book focussing so much in end of life issues as well as people who are cancer patients is very meaningful to me since I am a long term cancer patient and have had to learn to live life fully within the framework of having a life threatening illness which thankfully has remained in remission much longer than either me or my doctors expected. This book is a comfort to me reflecting so much understanding and compassion. . Irvin D. Yalom remains a champion teacher/author in the field of psychotherapy for me and many other clinicians with whom I have shared his books. This book could easily help any doctor who is dealing with end of life issues with patients giving clear and insightful accounts of what is important to know when people are in life/death situations.
