Something rather wonderful occurs when the last flaming autumn leaves fall and turn brown when November steals in with quiet tones, and snow flurries dance through gray days. The indoor garden comes into its own. Jean Hersey, 1965

{HISTORY}

Across 128 pages, The Woman's Day Book of House Plants covers 191 varieties of plants, herbs, and flowers ideally suited for indoor environments. Way beyond just factual information, author Jean Hersey also shares colorful notes about each plant highlighting their distinct appeal, unique characteristics, and individual personalities.

Beautifully illustrated with watercolor art by Harry Marinsky, this book not only acts as a helpful guide when it comes to house plant selection and care but it also acts like your personal style advisor when it comes to displaying your plants in your space. Whether you enjoy just a few pots of greenery here and there or are striving for an indoor garden display packed with a variety of plants, Jean helps you decide what to put where and how they work most beautifully together.

We love this book especially too because it includes a section on kitchen gardening that goes beyond the typical herb garden to include sweet potatoes, beets, carrots, pineapples, lentils and citrus fruits.

Jean was a 20th-century freelance writer and author of many engaging books and articles on gardening and domestic life. She had a long-time career dispensing horticultural advice and information to the midcentury readers of Woman's Day magazine and worked in collaboration with them on several garden-themed books including The Woman's Day Book of Wildflowers published in 1960.

Love C+H
Format: Paperback
I got this, and all the other Calvin + Hobbes books for my dad, as he used to have a lot of them before my ex stepmother took them in their divorce a few years ago. I grew up stealing those books from him to read, and we had a lot of good memories around those books and reading them together. He loved them, and the comics are still as amazing as I remember them being <3

Best Book About Comic Book Guy EVER
Format: Hardcover
You love the Simpsons! You love Comic Book Guy! And, well, to gain the best possible enjoyment of this book, you also love, or at least have a passing knowledge of, movies, science-fiction, pro wrestling (Rob Van Dam in ECW makes a cameo!), comics, video games, Dungeons & Dragons, and just general geek culture. And if you do, you'll LOVE this book. Sure, it seems to be the same gags just updated every few pages... but what are you expecting, Pride and Prejudice? It's an illustrated book, it has Simpsons-esque humor, and it's an enjoyable read. Highly recommended.
