Sedum pachyphyllum 'Silver Jelly Bean' is a charming succulent known for its unique foliage and silvery hue. This low-growing, clustering succulent is native to Mexico and is a popular choice for rock gardens, containers, and succulent arrangements.
Key Characteristics:
- Jelly Bean-Shaped Leaves: The most distinctive feature is its plump, cylindrical leaves that resemble jelly beans. These leaves are coated in a silvery-blue farina (a powdery coating) that gives them a frosted appearance.
- Color-Changing Leaves: The leaves can change color depending on sunlight exposure and temperature. In full sun and cooler temperatures, they can develop a beautiful pink or orange blush at the tips.
- Compact Growth Habit: 'Silver Jelly Bean' has a compact growth habit, forming tight clusters of rosettes that hug the ground. This makes it an excellent choice for small spaces or adding texture to mixed succulent plantings.
- Yellow Star-Shaped Flowers: In spring, this sedum produces clusters of small, star-shaped yellow flowers that add a cheerful touch of contrast to the foliage.
- Drought Tolerance: Like other sedums, 'Silver Jelly Bean' is incredibly drought-tolerant, making it well-suited for arid climates and xeriscaping.
Care Tips:
- Light: Plant in full sun to partial shade. Full sun will intensify the silvery-blue color and encourage blushing of the leaf tips.
- Watering: Water moderately during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.
- Soil: Plant in well-draining soil, such as a sandy or gravelly mix specifically formulated for succulents.
The first three photos serves a display purpose only. The succulent plant housed in the red pot comes in a 80mm diameter container. While the image provides a representative depiction of what you will receive, but may vary slightly because no two succulents are the same.
