About Playboi Carti: From SoundCloud to Streetwear Icon

Born Jordan Terrell Carter on September 13, 1995 in Atlanta, Georgia, Playboi Carti began his musical journey under the early alias Sir Cartier, self-releasing tracks on SoundCloud starting in 2011. His breakthrough came with his 2017 self-titled mixtape, which introduced the world to his signature minimalist, atmospheric production style and the now-legendary "baby voice" technique. That same year, the Pierre Bourne-produced hit "Magnolia" cemented his place in mainstream hip-hop and earned a personal co-sign from Jay-Z himself.

Carti's Playboi Carti plush-worthy persona grew even larger with Die Lit (2018) and the polarizing, vampiric Whole Lotta Red (2020), the latter of which is now credited as a watershed moment for the rage rap microgenre. In 2019, he founded Opium, a record label and rap collective housing artists like Ken Carson, Destroy Lonely, and Homixide Gang, all of whom carry forward the dark, punk-influenced aesthetic Carti pioneered. The Opium sound, built on bass-heavy production, gothic visuals, and anti-mainstream energy, has cultivated one of the most dedicated cult followings in modern music.

In March 2025, Carti released his long-awaited third studio album MUSIC, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with over 290,000 album-equivalent units in its first week and broke Spotify's single-day streaming records for 2025. Featuring Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, The Weeknd, Future, and Lil Uzi Vert, the album marked a new era for the King Vamp, blending his rage roots with deeper Atlanta trap influence.

The Supreme FW25 Campaign: A Full-Circle Streetwear Moment

Carti's connection to Supreme runs deeper than most. Long before he was a rap superstar, he was already rocking Supreme box logos on the streets and even referenced the brand directly in his music: "My Vans say Supreme" and "Rockin' Supreme, rockin' LV." When Supreme revealed Carti as the face of its Fall/Winter 2025 Photo Tee, shot by longtime collaborator Gunner Stahl, it was less a collab and more a coronation. The image, showing Carti in a classic white box logo tee with a red bandana tied around his head, captured his raw, rebellious energy with zero over-styling. The tee dropped August 28, 2025, as part of Supreme's FW25 Week 1 rollout, and sold out almost instantly, joining the legacy of iconic Photo Tee subjects including Nas, André 3000, Tyler the Creator, and Kermit the Frog.

This Playboi Carti plush keychain pays homage to that moment: the swagger, the bandana, the Supreme-era energy, all packed into a huggable 13cm fan art collectible. It is the perfect tribute for anyone who followed Carti from the SoundCloud days through to the MUSIC era and the Antagonist Tour.

FAQ: Playboi Carti, Opium, and the Rage Rap Movement

What is the rage rap subgenre and how did Playboi Carti pioneer it?

Rage rap is a subgenre of hip-hop characterized by distorted, bass-heavy production, aggressive vocal delivery, and a focus on energy and mood over conventional lyricism. Playboi Carti is widely credited as one of its key pioneers, particularly through his 2020 album Whole Lotta Red, which pushed the sound into mainstream awareness. The genre blends elements of punk rock, trap, and gothic aesthetics, and Carti's Opium label further expanded it through artists like Ken Carson and Destroy Lonely. By the mid-2020s, rage rap had become one of the most recognizable sounds in modern hip-hop.

What is Playboi Carti's album MUSIC about and why did it break records in 2025?

Playboi Carti's third studio album MUSIC (also known as I Am Music) was released on March 14, 2025 after a highly anticipated five-year wait. The 30-track project debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with approximately 290,000 album-equivalent units in its first week, and broke Spotify's single-day streaming records for 2025, accumulating over 139 million streams in a single day. The album marked a stylistic evolution for Carti, shifting from his "baby voice" approach toward a deeper, raspier delivery rooted in classic Atlanta trap, while retaining the rage rap energy his fanbase loves. Features included Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, The Weeknd, Future, and Lil Uzi Vert.

Why is Playboi Carti called King Vamp and what does the vampire aesthetic mean in his music?

Playboi Carti adopted the King Vamp persona most visibly during the Whole Lotta Red era in 2020, appearing with red hair, black leather, and a gothic, vampiric visual identity. The aesthetic drew from punk rock, goth subculture, and horror imagery, positioning Carti as a rock star within the world of hip-hop rather than a conventional rapper. The King Vamp title became both a self-proclaimed title and a fan-given nickname, reflecting his dark, theatrical persona, his influence over youth streetwear culture, and his reputation as the undisputed leader of the Opium rap collective.

What is the Opium label and how has it shaped hip-hop fashion and culture?

Opium is a record label and rap collective founded by Playboi Carti in 2019, based in Atlanta, Georgia. Its roster includes Ken Carson, Destroy Lonely, Homixide Gang, and ASAP Nast. Beyond music, Opium has evolved into a full cultural movement and aesthetic identity defined by all-black, avant-garde fits, distorted streetwear silhouettes, leather, mesh, and cyberpunk-influenced styling. The Opium look draws from 80s goth fashion, punk rock, and high fashion, and has meaningfully influenced how a generation of young fans dress and express themselves. By 2025, being part of the Opium world had become synonymous with a specific anti-mainstream youth cultural identity.

What is the significance of Playboi Carti appearing on the Supreme FW25 Photo Tee?

Supreme's annual Photo Tee is one of the most coveted pieces in streetwear, historically reserved for cultural icons who sit at the intersection of music, fashion, and street culture. Past subjects include Nas, André 3000, Tyler the Creator, and even Kermit the Frog. Playboi Carti was revealed as the face of the FW25 edition in a photograph shot by longtime collaborator Gunner Stahl, showing Carti in a white box logo tee with a red bandana. The collaboration is widely regarded as a full-circle moment: Carti had been referencing Supreme in his music and wearing the brand for years before the co-sign was formalized. The tee dropped on August 28, 2025, and sold out almost immediately, cementing both Carti's place in streetwear history and the cultural weight of the Supreme x Carti moment.

A familiar story, just with…..less.
Format: Kindle
So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

Good start to a series
Format: Kindle
I delayed reading the series for reasons I don’t remember. But my TBR list is huge so I thought I’d take a shot of this and I was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t think the blurb about it was anything special. But it was a very good book. It took some interesting twists and turns. I am so glad the second book is already out. Because I would not have waited patiently. Very slow burn but good storyline. 🔥🔥/5

A good read
Format: Kindle
Multiple points of view. 3 Alpha men and an Omega male. She is a Beta in training for a new program placing betas in Alpha/Omega packs. Mila is only doing the program for the money to take care of her dad. She wasn't expecting to fall for a pack but when she sees this packs Omega she is done for. There is just something about him. His Alphas are good looking as well. Too bad she is hiding a secret and their government is acting shady. I liked it and can't wait to see where their story goes.

Slightly repetitive but I did love some things
Format: Kindle
I love this type of story. And omegaverse is one of my all time favorite genres. But there are a few things that pulled me out of my enjoyment while I was reading. It was repetitive at times as well as struggled with telling not showing. So we didn’t always feel like we were experiencing things with the main character. There were also some plot holes but they may still be answered in part 2. Now this isn’t to be said I didn’t enjoy parts of the story. I loved the almost instant love between Mila and Oliver. And how he started changing around her.
