Garmin Edge® MTB GPS Bike Computer

Garmin’s first mountain-bike-specific GPS computer. Rugged Gorilla Glass + overmolded rubber buttons, 5Hz GPS recording, timing gates, enduro and downhill profiles, Trailforks with Forksight, MTB dynamics, 14-hour battery, just 58g. $399.99.

Our Take: The Edge MTB is the first Garmin cycling computer designed from the ground up for mountain biking — and it shows. At 58 grams with Corning Gorilla Glass and overmolded rubber buttons, it’s built to survive crashes, mud, rocks, and rain that would punish other computers. The 5Hz GPS recording captures trail lines with five times the detail of standard GPS, the timing gates feature turns any trail into a timed course, and the enduro/downhill profiles intelligently separate climbing and descending data. Trailforks with Forksight means you always know what’s ahead at every junction. At $399.99, it’s the most affordable current-generation Edge. The trade-offs are real, though. The 2.13-inch transflective display (240×320) is small — fine for data fields during a descent, but limiting for map reading and navigation. There’s no touchscreen, no Wi-Fi, no speaker, no Garmin Pay, and several training features found on other Edge models (Power Guide, Cycling Ability, Cycling Coach plans) are missing. If you ride primarily mountain bike and want a tough, compact, trail-focused computer at the best price, the Edge MTB is the clear choice. If you split time between road and trail, or need a bigger screen for navigation, consider the Edge 550 at $499.99 (larger 2.7″ screen, all x50 features, same MTB profiles) or the Edge 850 at $599.99 (touch + buttons, speaker, Garmin Pay). If battery life is paramount, the Edge 840 at $449.99 delivers 26 hours of demanding use — nearly double the MTB.

Edge MTB — Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Edge MTB different from the Edge 550?

The Edge MTB is purpose-built for mountain biking. It has a smaller, more rugged body (50.4×77.8×19.8 mm, 58g vs. 54.6×92.2×16.8 mm, ~110g), overmolded rubber buttons that resist mud and grit, Corning Gorilla Glass for crash resistance, and includes both an MTB handlebar mount and a top tube mount in the box. The Edge 550 has a larger 2.7-inch transmissive LCD (420×600, 1,000 nits) vs. the MTB’s 2.13-inch transflective TFT (240×320). The 550 adds Cycling Coach plans, on-device weather radar overlays, road surface type, and Wi-Fi. Both share 5Hz GPS, Trailforks with Forksight, timing gates, enduro/downhill profiles, and GroupRide. The 550 costs $499.99 vs. $399.99 for the MTB.

Does the Edge MTB have a touchscreen?

No. The Edge MTB uses 7 overmolded rubber buttons exclusively. No touchscreen. This is a deliberate design choice: buttons work reliably with muddy gloves, in rain, and resist accidental presses during rough descents. The overmolded rubber seals out mud and grit that can work into traditional button mechanisms.

Is the Edge MTB only for mountain biking?

No. It has road, gravel, indoor, and eBike profiles in addition to the MTB-specific enduro, downhill, and eEnduro profiles. It tracks VO2 max, training status, recovery time, and supports structured workouts. However, some features found on other Edge models are missing: no Power Guide, no Cycling Ability classification, no Wi-Fi, and no ClimbPro Explore (it does have standard ClimbPro). If you ride mostly road and occasionally trail, the Edge 550 or 840 may be a better all-rounder.

How tough is the Edge MTB?

Very tough. The display uses Corning Gorilla Glass for scratch and impact resistance. The body is fibre-reinforced polymer with a silicone overmold coating. All 7 buttons are overmolded rubber to seal out mud, grit, and debris. IPX7 water resistance (submersion to 1m for 30 minutes). The mount is designed to be replaceable if damaged in a crash. At 58g, it’s also light enough that a crash impact carries less force than a heavier unit.

What are timing gates?

Timing gates let you place up to 10 virtual split points along a trail. Once set, the Edge MTB automatically records split times each time you ride through them. Real-time feedback shows green (faster) or red (slower) vs. your previous best. This turns any trail into a personal race course with instant delta times — useful for training, line optimization, and unofficial race practice. Requires 5Hz GPS mode (enduro or downhill profiles).

What’s in the box?

Edge MTB GPS bike computer, MTB handlebar mount (out-front/over-stem, adjustable), top tube mount with strap, tether, USB-C charging/data cable, and documentation. The top tube mount is a new design that can bolt to frame bosses or strap to tubes. No heart rate monitor, speed, or cadence sensors included — sold separately.

How does the battery life compare?

The Edge MTB gets 14 hours in demanding use and 26 hours in battery saver mode. That’s comparable to the Edge 550 and 850 (12h/36h) in demanding use but shorter in saver mode. The Edge 840 has the best battery at 26h demanding / 42h saver. For most trail riding sessions (2–6 hours), the MTB’s 14 hours is more than sufficient. Multi-day bikepacking with navigation may require overnight charging or a power bank.

Engines run smoothly and efficiently
Color: Pack of 2
I’ve been using Sea Foam SF-16 in both my outboard motor and sailboat, and it has proven to be an invaluable product for maintaining engine performance. This motor treatment is incredibly versatile and effective, making it a staple in my marine maintenance routine. One of the standout benefits of Sea Foam SF-16 is its ability to clean and lubricate the entire fuel system. It effectively removes harmful deposits and residues that can build up over time, ensuring that my engines run smoothly and efficiently. This is particularly important for marine engines, which can be prone to issues due to the harsh operating environment. I also appreciate how Sea Foam stabilizes fuel. This is crucial for my sailboat, which sometimes sits unused for extended periods. By adding Sea Foam to the fuel tank, I can be confident that the fuel remains fresh and free from moisture, preventing potential engine problems when I’m ready to hit the water again. Another great feature is its ease of use. Simply adding the recommended amount to the fuel tank is all it takes to start seeing the benefits. I’ve noticed a significant improvement in engine performance, with smoother idling and better throttle response. It also helps reduce emissions, which is a nice bonus for the environment. Overall, Sea Foam SF-16 is a fantastic product that I highly recommend to anyone with an outboard motor or sailboat. It keeps engines clean, running smoothly, and protected from the elements, making it a must-have for any boat owner.

WOW-Smoother Performance-Idle Better-Easy To Use-LOVE This Stuff
Color: Pack of 2
GREAT product! I own a "mature" car with lower milage. However the low idle was off and slow, additionally learned that a Gas station provider (occasionally use) had been found to have water in their gas. After reading the reviews and learning many auto mechanics swear by Sea Foam, decided to give it a try. As a woman have experienced hype, un-necessary work etc through the years. I used a funnel to add Sea Foam to my gas tank. Wow! even on shorter trip, noticed a smoother performance. With longer driving seems to have helped the idle and running even smoother! Believe that with more use will see even better performance and hopefully better milage! Do Not Hesitate, you and your vehicle are worth it! Thank you!

One of the Few Fuel Additives I Keep Buying
Color: Pack of 2
I've been using this product in my 2015 Ford F-150 for more than five years, and it's one of the few fuel additives that has earned a permanent spot in my maintenance routine. I originally started using it as preventive maintenance, but over time I noticed the engine seemed to run smoother after treatment. It's not the kind of product that suddenly turns your truck into a race car, but it has consistently done what I hoped it would do. I've purchased and used it multiple times over the years, which probably says more than anything else I could write. If a product doesn't work or isn't worth the money, I usually don't buy it again. This one keeps finding its way back into my shopping cart. I trust the product, I've had good results with it, and I think it's a reasonable value for the money. Based on my experience, I'll continue using it as part of my regular maintenance routine. If you believe in taking care of your vehicle before problems start, this has been a worthwhile purchase for me.

Mechanic Recommends Sea Foam -- Best Gas Treatment for All Engines
Color: Pack of 1
We have a small-engine mechanic who turned us onto SeaFoam motor treatment -- and against most gasoline preservatives and treatments. He said he'd drained, or seen inside, thousands of gasoline tanks, and the stuff sold as gasoline storage additives was often still there, sitting as gel on the bottom of the tank. Just gunk. He also said most brands of engine treatment weren't worth the money. However, he swore by SeaFoam, which I'd never tried at the time, and my experience since has proved him out. I've had many rough-running engines find their power and performance again, with nothing different, but a shot of SeaFoam in the gas tank (and the crankcase). We own a number of vehicles and equipment with small engines, from a compact backhoe, to a ride'em Husqvarna mower, weedwacker, chainsaw -- and on the larger size, a Honda SUV and Ford F150 pickup. All of them have benefited greatly from the regular use of SeaFoam. However, when we're running the road vehicles a lot, especially in the summer, we go through gas and don't necessarily add SeaFoam with every fill. Recently, the Ford began to run rough. It stalled as I pulled up to corners and lights. In the past, that would have meant a mechanic and an expensive tune-up. All I did was go for a fill-up, and started by adding a full can of SeaFoam. Problem solved, just like that. The Terramite (made in the USA) backhoe is not used a lot -- and as with most motors, that is a problem. It's bad for an engine not to run it -- and especially, in most cases, for it to sit with gas in the tank. The backhoe has a Kohler Command 25-horse gasoline engine that powers the hydraulics that run the wheels, steering, front-loader, and backhoe. I change the spark plugs each season, but it, like my Stihl chainsaw, and 6500 watt backup (gasoline) generator, and for that matter, all the small engines, can be hard to start after a hiatus. And even when they get going, they'll run rough. I used to drain the tanks frequently, then run them dry, then fill again before use, and hope for the best. But SeaFoam has changed all that. Throughout the summer, I can leave treated gas in the tank, and have little problems with starts or rough running. In the smaller equipment, I dose the gasoline with each fill (1 oz per gallon), as SeaFoam cleans both carburetors and full injection systems. It is good for gasoline and diesel engines. Added to your crankcase (1.5 oz per quart of oil), it cleans deposits and quiets noisy lifters. These days, most gasoline is mixed with ethanol and that's a bad thing for small engines. Ethanol goes hand in hand with water -- and as we all know, water in the gas is anathema to motors. Again, my small engine mechanic told me, 90% of the no-start problems he had to deal with were caused by ethanol-caused water in the fuel system. SeaFoam actually controls moisture and prevents this problem. It also de-ices and is anti-gel. In my opinion, when it comes to gasoline and diesel engines, large and small, SeaFoam is THE Silver Bullet. My equipment is often running, while my neighbors are running with theirs to the shop. I've told many about SeaFoam, but some people seem to want to do it the hard way. By the way, I also swear by PRI-G fuel additive for long-term gasoline storage. I keep 100 gallons of gas in tanks for emergency use. We are in a rural, wilderness area. I was introduced to that by survival expert, Steve Harris. He said he's had gasoline that was 10 years old still run equipment, because he'd added PRI-G to it (you can buy here on Amazon). Of course, you have to remember to add more PRI-G each year -- that's the catch. So our rule of thumb is, PRI-G for long term fuel storage -- and SeaFoam for month to month. Also -- this price is right! Of course, when you compare the cost of equipment breakdown, and having to take anything to a mechanic, this is almost free. However, apples to apples, this price is cheaper than Walmart -- and up to $4 cheaper per can than many auto supply and hardware stores. Can't say enough good things about this product! Highly recommended.
